Major Pledge
$20,000 to Community Projects & Scholarships – Every year I will pledge $20,000 of my personal elected salary to various community projects and scholarships, particularly those who are young Subi locals. After four years this will be a total of $80,000.
Policies
Choose Your Policies – Please reach out to me and fill out the Choose Your Policies form so that your policies can be included here.
Direct Democracy – For all matters put before council, I will first put out a vote to the community and I will then personally vote with the popular will of the community.
Hydra Act – For every tree that is cut down in the City, two more will have to be planted to take its place as a matter of policy in order to preserve and expand our tree canopy.
Citizen of the Year Awards – More recognition for local members of our Subiaco community. I believe in proper recognition of achievements and the award would be of a uniquely Subiaco design in order to put maximum effort into recognising outstanding members of our community.
There will also be various runner up awards for various categories (eg: senior’s award, young award etc.)
Citizenship Ceremonies – Expanding the scale and excitement of our citizenship ceremonies and encouraging as many members of the community as possible to show up to welcome our new Australians with gifts. I will also personally provide symbolic Australian gifts to our new
citizens.
ANZAC Day & Week – Massive expansion of our ANZAC Day efforts through individually commemorating each individual soldier and bringing to life their stories. Expansion to an ANZAC Week.
Subiaco Sport – I will actively attend sport games representing Subiaco and will aim to visit each division of every Subiaco sport team at a game at least once per year. It is important to encourage our local sport teams who build pride for our city. Glory Glory Subiaco!
Volunteer City – Creation of a local volunteer group to support various initiatives in the City (preserving gardens, cleaning streets, organising events, preserving wildlife, food relief, support to locals who are struggling etc.). Additionally, I will heavily encourage volunteering throughout the city. I personally believe every member of the community should give back to the community.
More Native Plants – Areas that are dead or barren should be given new life by planting local native plants.
Projects
Youth Council – Setting up a ceremonial youth council to give young residents the opportunity to represent the city and learn certain aspects of local government. This would be split between a “Junior” (Junior & Middle School) and “Senior” Council (Senior School & University). Each Council will consist of 8 Councillors, each serving a 1 year term by election from local people their age. Each Councillor will spend 6 weeks as “Aide to the Mayor” where they will take a leading role in events during that time period.
Volunteer Awards / Service Stripes – Members of the City who contribute to volunteering both as part of the local volunteer group and all other forms of service will be recognised for their service.
Freedom of Entry – Hundreds of Subiaco residents have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service of Australia during times of war, with thousands more having served. I want a unit of the local 13th Brigade to be granted Freedom of Entry to the City in order to promote our ties and hold a unique and memorable event.
City of Subiaco Band – Subiaco used to have a band from the 1900s-1950s, adorned in beautiful uniforms. I want to re-create the band, thus giving an opportunity for many of our locals to learn/improve on their instruments and an opportunity for our City to improve our events and prestige. Additionally other cities in Perth such as the City of Perth, City of South Perth, City of Cockburn and Town of Claremont have their own bands.
City of Subiaco Cadet Corps – Creation of a local Cadet Corps which will be modelled to support the volunteering interests of the local community and to build many skills in different areas for young people in Subiaco. They can also assist with Anzac Day & RSL commemoration services.
Citizen’s Murals – The town of Bruce Rock does this to an amazing extent. Every family in the town has their own 0.5m x 0.5m piece of brick artwork on a footpath. I want to replicate this in a similar way so that each family of Subiaco can have their contribution to our city recognised and in order to brighten up some of the drab pavement around the City.
Radio Subiaco – Establishment of volunteer-run local videos by Subiaco community members to talk about local news, updates and open up the administration of the City to the public audience to build trust, keep the public up to date and give local opportunities for videomaking, storymaking and journalism.
Boost the RSL – Actively expand the size and projects of the local RSLs in Subiaco and the Western Suburbs at large.
Boost the Men’s Shed – Actively expand the membership, projects and capabilities of the local Men’s Shed.
Sister Cities – Build ceremonial relationships with various cities/towns in other states/countries, including opportunities for local community members to undertake activities overseas and vice versa. I plan to have at least 1 of these Sister City events to occur each year. (Other towns in the world named Subiaco include: Subiaco, Lazio, Italy w/ 8,500 people & Subiaco, Arkansas, USAw/ 400 people).
Promote the Australian Flag – Promote the raising of the Australian National Flag throughout the community.
Rotating Ceremonial Roles – Establish various ceremonial roles for the City that can be given to community members on a rotating basis, giving members of the community a closer connection to the City administration.
Subiaco Week – Establish a week of events, ceremonies and activities every year revolving around the City of Subiaco.
Advance The European Village Feel – Lean into our historical buildings and connection with European art and architecture to hold various events and activities.
